Marketing is like gardening. It has predictable cycles. There are actions you, as the master gardener, need to take to make your garden inviting, healthy and sustainable. There are elements you can control, and some that you can prepare for, but you cannot dictate their outcome.
Before you start your marketing garden, you’ll need to answer three essential questions:
- Who do you want to attract to your garden?
- Why would they want, or need, to come there?
- What will they find when they get there?
Even though these are simple questions, your answers could be quite detailed. In fact, the more descriptive and fleshed out you make your answers, the easier it will be for you to take action, attract the right customers and keep them coming back.
You will also know who is not your customer and you will not hesitate to turn them away or say “no” to time or energy vampires who are plentiful and waiting to suck you dry without contributing to the health or well-being of your garden.
Spend time answering these three questions. It could save you valuable time, money and distress as you grow your marketing garden.
